Add a Little Fall to your New Home

It’s time to kiss the summer weather goodbye and say hello to the brisk air and gorgeous colors of autumn.

If you’re looking to extend your porch-sitting season a bit longer or spice up your welcome mat for guests at your new home, keep reading for some fun, easy ideas to decorate your stoop, porch, or garden this fall.

• Add color! Simple pops of autumn color make for a great touch. Pick up some seasonally-perfect mums for a container or a throw pillow for an outdoor chair or couch. Looking for a creative way to showcase the flowers? Try placing them inside of a red vintage wagon.

• Layer with haystacks, crates, and baskets and add cornstalks and tall urn garden containers for height.

• Decorate with pumpkins, gourds, pinecones, and scarecrows. Mixing and matching pumpkins of all shapes, sizes, and colors add a nice rustic feel.

• Carving your address or street number into one of the pumpkins on your stoop brings a personalized and clever extra.

• Have an outdoor table? Top it with a bowl full of pinecones, leaves, pumpkins, apples, or whichever fall favorites you’d like. Ornamental cabbage or flowering kale also make for a nice centerpiece.

• An autumn wreath on your front door and a seasonally-perfect welcome mat offer a warm greeting to family and guests.

• Keep a blanket handy. If you’re someone who plans to enjoy this season on your front stoop or on a piece of outdoor furniture, you’ll want that homemade quilt or something cozy nice and close.

Core Homes: Plainfield: A Family Friendly Village

Plainfield: A Family Friendly Village

The Village of Plainfield is the oldest community in Will County.  Originally known as Walker’s Grove, settlers can be traced back to the early 1800’s.  Today, Plainfield is a prospering and bustling village with a population of 39,581.

The Village of Plainfield is recognized as one the best cities in Illinois for families to live.  These rankings take into account: safety, quality of education, home affordability, prosperity, growth and family friendliness.  The Village of Plainfield was ranked #5 by Movoto in an article entitled “Ten Best Places For Families To Live In Illinois” and ranked #12 by NerdWallet in an article entitled “Best Cities For Young Families In Illinois”.

Here’s what Movoto had to say about Plainfield:

“If you happen to be moving your family to someplace new in Illinois, Plainfield may well be one of the best options for everyone. Your kids will have no trouble meeting others their age, since 56.12 percent of this village’s residents have kids.

Plus, when you get tired of your kids and need a night out, you’ll have no problem finding a sitter, since this village had the second highest number of childcare listings per capita. (Hey. It happens.)

Plus, Barbara the babysitter is bound to be plenty smart—the high school graduation rate in Plainfield is 96 percent, the highest in the state.”

Another family friendly feature about Plainfield is their downtown area.  Downtown Plainfield, the heart of the community,  is pedestrian friendly and features quaint shopping, dining and entertainment experiences.  Each year, the downtown is home to a number of special events including Plainfield Fest, classic car nights, movies and concerts.
